After Apicoectomy (Endodontic Surgery) Instructions

What to Expect After Your Procedure

An apicoectomy is a minor surgical procedure performed to remove infection at the tip of a tooth root.

Following surgery, it is normal to experience:

• Mild swelling
• Minor discomfort
• Slight bruising near the surgical area

These symptoms generally improve within several days.

Managing Swelling

Swelling is typically greatest during the first 24–48 hours.

To help reduce swelling:

• Apply a cold compress to the outside of the face for 10–15 minutes at a time
• Rest and avoid strenuous activity for the remainder of the day

Post Apicoectomy Tips

Eating After Surgery

For the first 24–48 hours, choose soft foods such as: • Yogurt • Eggs • Soup • Smoothies • Pasta Avoid chewing directly on the surgical area.

Oral Hygiene

Continue brushing and flossing your teeth, but avoid disturbing the surgical area until advised by your doctor. You may be given additional instructions regarding rinsing or medications.

When to Contact Our Office

Activity After Surgery

Avoid strenuous physical activity for the first 24 hours following surgery. Keeping activity light during the early healing period will help reduce swelling and discomfort.
